I guess the only freedom that matters to some people is the freedom to consume.
UPDATE: And no, the government did not ban incandescent light bulbs.

No mention of the Patriot Act and library cards???
What’s really ironic about the conservative talking points regarding incandescent lightbulb “bans” is that the government didn’t ban them at all. The government just enacted a law requiring increased efficiency in incandescent bulbs, which the industry could not (or would not) comply with. And that was the impetus for the technological advances in CFLs and LED bulbs.
Maybe we should go ahead with the improved car mileage requirements, then.
Even more ironic is that the industry actually came out in support of the standards because having a federal standard makes it much easier to follow than differing state standards.
Conservatives continue to talk about how much the industry hates the “ban”, which doesn’t really exist in the first place.
More proof to me that there is little room for facts in Republican dogma anymore.

FYI – A federal judge dismissed yet another lawsuit to stop federal funding of stem cell research. One of the researchers quoted referred to the decision as granting them the freedom to do research.

The thing that always bothered me about these kinds of rights claims is that they completely ignored any consideration of responsibilities. It’s kind of an adolescent view of the world.
BTW – I do not mean rights to do stem cell research. But the kinds of rights claims referenced in the cartoon above (right to consume, obviously but also right to own guns, etc).
