Last week, Donald Trump said he would show his tax returns when Obama showed his birth certificate.
Well, Obama has released his birth certificate. When will we get to see Trump’s tax returns?
Of course, instead Trump took credit for forcing Obama to release his birth certificate and then started demanding to see Obama’s student records. As one person said, this is why you never negotiate with terrorists.
On the other hand, if Trump releases his tax returns, we might get a closer look at the four (count ’em) times that Trump’s businesses declared bankruptcy.
Ok, I’m going to officially stop giving Trump any more attention. He is a lying, hypocritical joke.
UPDATE: Jon Stewart weighs in:

UPDATE 3: Even more lies. He’s definitely qualified to be the Republican nominee for president.

This whole subject just pisses me off. The White House released a copy two years ago. Then the State of Hawaii did the same a month later. But it wasn’t the “long form” or some such bullshit. For Christ’s sake. My original copy of my birth certificate (actually it says “Certificate of Live Birth”) is about half the size of an 8 1/2 X 11 inch piece of paper. Now the “controversy” is that “no one” remembers Obama as a child or in college. Really, you humps? There aren’t any Harvard Law Review archives with his name on them? The professors who have been interviewed are lying?
Please, you morons, name for me the last white candidate who has had to answer these questions, and then be asked the same questions after TWICE putting them to rest? I’ll just tell you the answer: ZERO, no one. What angle will you come up with tomorrow?
If his own presidential campaign opponent (who by the way, was not born on U.S. soil) didn’t think it was an issue, than why should anyone else? And his mother is a U.S. citizen, so that makes him a citizen by law anyfuckingway! Were the birth notices planted in the Honolulu newspapers 50 years ago in some 50-year conspiracy to raise this small half black baby as our first socialist president? Or are they fakes too?
People like Trump, Hannity, Limbaugh and the rest know they’re spreading lies, but they also know they’re preaching to very stupid people. Or people so gullible, they wallow in purposeful ignorance.
I had more obscenities typed out but decided to backspace.
Sammy, I added one additional link to the end of the article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/factchecker-trump-on-birther-issue-libya-etc/2011/04/27/AF69nZ0E_story.html
It seems like Trump is basically incapable of speaking anything resembling the truth.
IK, now you’re just TRYING to kick in my family’s history of high blood pressure!
Look fellas, Trump is just being the Donald. He is a publicity seeking and generating machine. He has no intention of running, he’s just getting his ratings up. I saw an article that said he contributes more to Dems then Reps and when rank and file Rep voters see that he’s done. He doesn’t care, he’s running this media circus just like his show. Don’t watch it for real just watch it for the entertainment distraction it is. It’s a reality government apprentice and Obama just got schooled on making deals by caving into the demand. Trump 1, Obama 0. Lets see how round 2 goes on the school records.
Yes Patriot, but the bigger point is that these a-holes manipulate stupid, willful ignoramuses with lies you know they don’t even believe. Hannity and Rush and Beck have HUGE audiences who they KNOW hang upon their every word, and they use their pulpits to spread lies and disinformation. And if they don’t spread lies or edit videos (Hannity), they fail to hold their own kind accountable to tell the truth.
Isn’t the basis of the present Republican Party “NOT MEANT TO BE FACTUAL” Can you name any Republican considering running who presents good solid true FACTS? I think that the mantra of the campaign on the Republican side next year will be “NOT MEANT TO BE FACTUAL.”
I saw an interesting comment today which tied together the recent accelerated birther issue permeating the right wing echo chamber and the Republicans getting trashed in “town hall” meetings.
Not sure if they are really related, but for sure the power of the lie has far surpassed the power of the truth for a lot of those people. Reading the comments on Fox Nation about the birther stuff was pure comedy gold. My favorites were the ones who said that the birth certificate was a silly issue, but that it was Obama’s fault that it was a silly issue.
I understand what you guys are saying, but…
From a partisan viewpoint, I think Trump making birther noise (with echos from Palin et al) may help him get the personal publicity he craves, but I think it is hurting the Republicans overall, as it is driving independents away from Republican candidates.
But (pardon the pun) trumping that, the whole birther nonsense is distracting us from the real work we need to be doing to get this country back on track.
IK I think you are exactly right. I think many serious Reps also agree with you and even a few usually rabid Fox contributers even think Trump is a joke. The evil Michelle Malkin said Tea Partiers need to wise up, because Trump doesn’t care about them and most of his stances in the past were more liberal then conservative. Obama should completely ignore him as just a mouth in the wilderness. He has’t even declared he is running and is just waiting until after the current TV season, yea right. How could anyone take him serious.
What I find really amazing though is that most every liberal media person last night on MSNBC was talking about Trump and playing the race card even The View ladies. I’m guessing they think Trump is actually attacking the President for real and feel he can’t defend himself or something, which he certainly can. Trump isn’t a racist, he’s headline grabber and the more outrageous he gets, the more people listen, the more his name stock rises. They all fell right into his lap and did what he hoped they would. Odonnel was even calling on NBC to fire the racist Trump, which means he really doesn’t get the entertainment business. The are as likely to end Trump as Fox is to get rid of Oreilly. What a circus.
Like Thought Dancer once said, just laugh at them, they’ll eventually just fade away.
PatriotSGT. Actually, not exactly. Laughing at such bullying rhetoric won’t make it fade away by itself. Laughing is one first step to regaining control of the rhetorical situation (shame being another). Laughter is a successful means of dis-empowering people, enabling reason and evidence–as a follow-up–to be effectively used to undermine the bullies.
I did intend to say dis-empowering people: as many groups know, laughter can be used to undermine the already dis-empowered. Laughter is a rhetorical tool, even a weapon, with ethics issues as complex as any other rhetorical tool. But, as I advocated earlier, laughter is most likely an ethical response to the bullying rhetoric when we see it, especially if it’s followed by reasoned debate supported by evidence.
Ok, back to bed for me. (Sinus infection. I hope that made sense.)
Thank You and good night Thought Dancer (or good morning), hope you feel better 🙂
All this got me to thinking today….what is it with Republicans and penises? Didn’t they want a picture of (Bill) Clinton’s penis? Now they want circumcision documentation (pictures included maybe?) from Obama. They seem to be obsessed with penises. Guys, if you’re in a public restroom or shower and another guy can’t keep his eyes above the waistline then I’d lay odds that he is a Republican.
Trump may or may not BE a racist…you’d have to get into his mind to determine that. But, implying that Obama got some kind of special treatment or pass to get into Columbia and Harvard? There’s NO question that the implication has racial undertones and is designed to appeal to the racists out there…come on!!
I’d love the know what kind of truth behind the Negro comment(birthers say that under race it would of Negro, not African, back in 61), but more importantly…I’d love to know what would happen if it was found that he wasnt born here. Would they trash all the laws we’ve passed in the past two years? It couldnt be biden or clinton because their whole team should be considered invalid. hmmmmm…oh well :p
I think the race card can be overplayed, but still I agree with Mad Hatter — questioning if Obama got special treatment because he was a bad student is unquestionably designed to appeal to racists. One may claim that Trump himself is not racist, but just wants attention from anyone. But appealing directly to racists (even if his motive is not racist) makes him racist in my book.
Just one point of clarification: the fact that he was born within the territorial boundaries of the US makes him a US citizen. It’s part of this fairly obscure law called the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution. It would not matter whether his mother or his father were US citizens. By virtue of being born here, he is a US citizen.
I agree with IK on the question of whether Trump is a racist. Racism, for us academic types, is an attitude. We know attitudes by their associated behaviors. Regardless of Trump’s personal views on the superiority/inferiority of certain race groups, when you exhibit racist behaviors, you are for all intents and purposes, a racist. And Trump’s behaviors seem pretty clearly racist to me.
“I’m not racist, I just don’t like Obama because of some vague feeling of uneasiness I get from him that I can’t really explain.” Or “I hate Obama because he’s a socialist / a secret Muslim / wasn’t born in the US / is trying to destroy *our* way of life. I mean, he can’t be in favor of *our* way of life because, well, just look at him!”
Are those actual quotes?
Not intended to be actual quotes.
The sad thing is, I can see any number of Republican 2012 presidential contenders saying this.
