A local talk radio show recently asked people to call in and discuss whether they thought teachers should be allowed to strike in order to effect negotiations. Every single person who called in said no. A few mentioned that they were in unions and were not allowed to strike.
I would like to point out that those who are in unions that have a no-strike policy usually have the ability to sue their employers instead. This is the case with the federal government and many private businesses that have unions.
People calling into a radio show isn’t a random sampling of people, so you can’t draw any conclusions from it.
It is interesting that the issue of a suit hasn’t been brought up. I’m sure there must be other recourses than to strike.
I find it ironic that the original post was about manipulation of public opinion, and then you use a local radio talk show — where not only is the audience self selecting, but the show screens the callers so they can get people to say whatever they want — as a counter example? Wow. Just wow.
