Rick Perry is a jackass. Period.

[I’m reprinting this from Margaret and Helen. There is a followup posting there that you should read as well. – iron knee]

I told you, Margaret. It’s only just beginning.

Texas Governor Rick Perry said he will introduce emergency legislation requiring women seeking abortions to first get a sonogram of the fetus and listen to a recording of the heartbeat.

Why? Well when someone has all the information, according to Perry, “the right choice will be made — the choice for life.”

I find it funny how universal healthcare is big government gone bad, but somehow the government crawling up my uterus and telling me what choice to make isn’t. Odd how giving patients information about end of life options is a “death squad for Grandma” but sonograms before abortions are simply souvenirs for the family photo album.

Rick Perry is a jackass. Period.

Did it ever occur to you Governor Jackass that some of those women who you plan to force to have a sonogram and listen for a heartbeat are young girls who have been abused… young women who are devastated that a wanted pregnancy has gone bad… poor women who just can’t afford to feed another mouth… scared women who have been raped… and even regular ‘ole women who made peace with their God and don’t need to hear from yours?

Governor, please take your big hair to church as often as you like. Get down on your knees and pray to your God everyday. Join the choir and sing his praises until the cows come home. Get it all out of your system so that when you walk into that Capitol building you are a little less inclined to blur the line between religion and politics and force your narrow-minded, black and white version of right and wrong on millions of people who just maybe – maybe – don’t agree with you and your backward ass group of right-wing zealots.

2,700,000 Texans voted for you. 2,100,000 Texans voted for the other guy. So many important problems to be solved and you decide to divide us even deeper.

Jackass.

Tomorrow I will make a donation to Planned Parenthood. I mean it. Really.

Don’t hold back IK, tell um how you really feel.

I agree with pro choice IK, except in the 2nd or 3rd trimester. In those cases I believe it should only be done when it is determined the fetus or the mother would not survive the birth. 3rd term and near birth abortions are closer to murder IMO. As for subjecting women to listen to heartbeats I think that should be the woman’s choice and government should stay out of the doctors office.

Some time ago I was reading some editorials on-line sent to the Des Moines Register. There was one it particular that made my jaw drop.
A woman had written in that she had had three miscarriages despite doing everything correctly. Then she stated, that God had aborted her babies, and if God can do that then why can’t a woman.
I also found it upsetting that the same people who would force a woman to have a child are the same people who are against welfare for the poor but have no problem giving welfare to the rich.

I have always found it curious that the most virulent of pro-lifers are men — of course their lives and bodies are not on the front line of this debate!

Yet another rant and full of flaws, but: How would these same male pro-lifers like it if a majority of women decided that men didn’t have the right to impregnate anyone unless they were genetically worthy of reproducing? Not an level comparison, but it certainly is equal in the physical invasion of one body by the opinions and pronouncements of some other body!

O.K. End of rant and apologies to anyone who feels offended by it 🙂

PSGT, I didn’t write that, but since you asked, I will tell you how I really feel. I am personally against abortion, but even more I am totally against the government meddling in what is clearly a medical decision. So my bottom line is pretty clear — the government should stay completely out of it.

If Rick Perry’s church wants to campaign against abortion, that is their right and more power to them. When they start trying to get laws passed, then all I can say is “let he who is without sin cast the first stone”.

  5. Also, to follow this law, one would have to delay the abortion until 1) there’s a heartbeat 2) one can get in for the ultrasound 3) one can listen to said heartbeat 4) one receives the go ahead from a some (probably overworked) bureaucrat that they can have the abortion, at which point I suspect the woman would be long past a reasonable point to safely abort.

This law is designed to make abortions, all abortions, impossible to do legally in TX. It also forces women to carry longer than is needed to successfully end a pregnancy (say goodbye to the morning-after pill). It’s that simple.

I repeat the statistics on abortion: We have one of the lowest rates of abortion in Civilized countries. (which we used to be) In this country almost 1.5 million unwanted pregnancies are aborted a year. Now those Perry idiots (and yes, I donated to his oppenent even though I live in New York.) want to cut back government funding for the poor. I still have not seen the cartoon I’m waiting to see: The 1.5 million babies unwanted out on the streets and no Federal Support. Now another almost 1.5 million the next year. Like IK, I’m only prochoice for everyone else. My third was a “do-it-yourselver” very much wanted and has given my four grandchildren and you milk from his dairy farm.
Sorry not to supply links to my info. My computer crashed last Sunday. New computer on Tuesday, helping people doing taxes on TurboTax. Not fun

Strowbridge – Are you interpreting those verses as supportive of providing health care? Because otherwise, these are the verses that serve as the foundation for the rattlesnake Baptist sects. Not that I think there is anything necessarily wrong with rattlesnake Baptists, but I’m not clear where you are going with that.

Jon Stewart had a great segment on the “government funding of abortions” bill on Feburary 2nd, including how the Republicans use the term “forcible rape” (now being removed from the bill after widespread outrage). Key fact – the total number of abortions funded by the federal government (which are only allowed in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in jeapordy) were 161 cases in the amount to $0.002 per taxpayer last year – and yes, that’s 2/10’s of a cent.

I agree with IK that this is a medical issue and the government has no business being involved in it, and while I personally believe that these decisions should be 100% in the control of the mother (or family) involved, I see the conservative viewpoint about not providing taxpayer funding – except that with the limites already in place, and for 2/10’s of a cent, we have wasted FAR more taxpayer money in drafting the bill (let alone arguing on it or voting on it).

I wish both parties would stop wasting time on things that have zero real impact (but play well to their base) and start digging on things thar rae truly important to us all.
