   What about Colin Powell? He usually tells it like he see’s it regardless of which side of the fence it falls. There’s a guy who could have been president, but did’nt want it. Imagine if he had run against Bush in 2000 how much different things might be today. His experience, leadership and candor could make a tremendous difference. Obama should seek his mentorship, it could save his presidency and get him re-elected.

   Actually Powell did not know they were lies. Read “What Happened?” by Scott McClellan. Bush, Cheney, Rove and one other chose to disbelieve Wilson’s findings that there were no WMDs. They failed to pass on the info. Powell threw out a lot that he was supposed to say. He didn’t run for President because of the danger which is wife Alma was unable to take. And perhaps I’m wrong. I may misremember what I read.
   Just read another article about teh tax cuts to the rich. Since Bush took Clinton’s surplus and gave it to the rich who created no jobs, I believe it is time the rich gave it back. Remember if the tax cuts expire, we are all going to pay more. Congress had to act and act not to extend the tax cuts to those above $250K. Christian Science monitor says that for those with above a million a year, Bush gave them enough to buy a nice Jaguar each year. See the article in this weeks edition.

   I’ll tell you what, I’m never too pleased with the republican party (I grew up in their leadership and lies) and then I see what they’re doing today and it just hurts me to think of aligning myself with them.

   But I’ll be damned if I hate Colin Powell. He’s probably one of the only republicans that I admire. In fact, he IS the only republican I admire. He’s brilliant. It’s a shame he had to be gutted by the mistakes of his boss. It happens, but I feel terribly sorry for him, which is more than I can say for Newt or Cheney or Rove.

   My theory on Bush, Cheney, Powell and the UN Iraq debacle is that Cheney orchestrated the whole thing. His deep insider status with DOD, CIA etc allowed him to have whatever evidence that was needed created. Now, I think Bush was probably too trusting or too easily swayed by Cheney and Powell, being a Soldier and relatively new to the political game took too much at face value without independent investigation.
   I do not think Powell would lie outright, it would go against every fiber of his being. I think he was lied to and used for what he is/was, a trustworthy, reliable source.
   I think thats why he left after 1 term, because he was deeply hurt and remorseful for his role.
