Plus, Tea Partiers in Utah at a Republican Party convention denied the Senate nomination to three term incumbent Bob Bennett, despite the fact that Bennett is popular with Republicans in Utah. By doing this, Tea Partiers are creating a situation where Democrats can gain this seat in the general election, despite the fact that Utah is a very conservative state.

I have mixed feelings about this sort of news. On the one hand, this kind of division in the Republican Party should increase the chances of non-Republicans in the general election. However, on the other hand it is also an indication of just how crazy some of our electorate really are. In the linked article Bennett says that with a couple of minor exceptions, he would still vote the same on the major pieces of legislation even knowing it would cost him his job. So we could be losing moderate to conservative Republican legislators who are at least voting in a sensible and statesman-like manner.
A good start. Now if only the Democratic party would self-destruct as well.
You know, I wouldn’t mind if all political parties would go away. Even George Washington tried to warn us against political parties.
May the best person for the job win.
