Most Americans are upset at health care reform because it doesn’t go far enough, and are upset at the stimulus because it isn’t creating enough jobs.

Exactly. If the Democrats just got their shit together and gave us the real change that we voted for in 2008 people would respond to that in a real way. Instead they are giving us incremental changes and playing footsie with the Republicans (and the GOP has proven they are impossible to work with.)

We fail to recognize how deeply their hands are in the corporate pockets, it really is endemic and until the whole ‘corruption’ or lobby issue is resolved, – which it won’t for the same reason – there will be no meaningful change.

The other guy you vote for will have already been groomed for the industry with a long list of promises to keep and commitments to fill.

It’s all about the power, and regardless about what people think, democracy is losing to capitalism.

    1) The other guy I vote for may be a gal.

    2) If I want an elected official not part of the old boys network or “groomed by industry” (whatever that is supposed to mean), it is my responsibility to support those candidates financially and with my time. The “system” is the way it is in part because of the lack of informed and thoughtful participation by people.

The other problem is that when the populist cry of “Throw them all out!” is screamed, what people really mean is “Throw them all out…er, except my representatives”.

Starluna, I loved your comment about how the other guy you vote for might be a gal. But then I thought about Margaret Thatcher or Sarah Palin. Sigh.
