One of my pet peeves is that when your typical corporation has an epic failure, they often just treat it as a image problem, and hire a PR firm rather than actually try to fix the problem itself. The latest example is AIG, whose record epic failure (they just posted the biggest loss in all of corporate history) is burning through hundreds of billions of taxpayer money, but they decided that the solution is to hire the PR firm Burson-Marsteller to improve their image. And yes, you’re paying for it.
Rachel Maddow gives us the inside skinny:

Wow. I consider myself liberal, but Maddow is beyond smug.
Smug, perhaps, but it’s a definite point. The banks demanded our money, and have done very little measurable good with it- now they’re using OUR money to hire another PR firm so that WE will like them better?
It’s utter nonsense, and while Maddow’s delivery may be not-quite-right, I definitely believe this matter is worth the attention, and should be getting some public outrage.
What exactly does she think PR firms are for? It sounds to me like Burson-Marsteller is just the best in the field. Heck, this could be an ad for them. “When they’ve screwed up so bad it’ll go down in history books, who do they call? Burson-Marsteller.”
