Scalia was best budy with Justice Ruth, and he lobbied for Kagan (which he eventually got).
World is not pure black and white, and no body is pure evil or pure good.
I did not understand the gesture part, is it Italian gesture? Arabs have somewhat similar gesture.
Roughly equivalent to the American middle finger.
IK, have you checked out and/or have an opinion on this Beyonce fiasco regarding the Superbowl halftime show. Daily KOS has the lyrics and music video both and I just don’t get the uproar. Is there more to this?
Dave, I haven’t been paying much attention to it, but that won’t stop me from expressing an opinion! First, Beyonce was protesting when police commit crimes. That is not “anti-police”. Second, given the evidence that the police harassed and violated the rights of the Black Panthers, I think it is her right to say something about it. I hadn’t heard about any uproar, and according to this article (http://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/music/tennessee-sheriff-blames-beyonc-s-super-bowl-halftime-show-shootings-n520181), the uproar has been more of a tempest in a teapot. They staged a protest at the NFL headquarters, and only 3 protesters showed up (who were completely outnumbered by counter protesters).
So I wouldn’t worry about it.
They slammed Prince’s halftime show several years ago for being overly sexualized (as if the beer and Go Daddy commercials weren’t?). Not a Prince fan, but really? This year they slam Beyonce’s for her protest performance in Michael Jackson faux military garb? Again, not a fan, but given all the recent incidents and unjustified shootings of blacks by overly militarized urban police forces, what did they expect? Another cringe-worthy Brittany Spears-like farcical with phallic boas and glittery thong? Besides, the whole friggin’ game is a military metaphor!
Colbert was his usual class act in his eulogy of Scalia but, sense of humor aside, let’s not forget his opinions for Citizens United and against the Voting Rights Act, among others of questionable social value or wisdom. His claim of having a strictly literal interpretation of the Constitution rang hollow as he sided with establishment corporate politics. Every single time.
RIP, Mr. Scalia, but that deserves a triple Italian salute in my book! And three more for a Republican Congress and presidential candidates who promise to hunker down and delay his replacement in hopes of installing another one just like him, or worse. And they accuse Obama of violating the Constitution? Prego!
Well said Ralph! I agree. I hope you feel better now. 🙂
Ha! Yeah, I always feel better after a healthy rant. For about 5 minutes, until realizing I’m still in the same boat with barely a single vote.
