A Brit living in the US tells us everything we need to know about today’s election in Canada, and breaks the law in the process:
UPDATE: “A Resounding Liberal Victory in Canada“. The conservatives were routed, going from holding a majority 159 seats in parliament to 99 seats in yesterday’s election. The Liberal party went from 36 seats to 184 seats, the first time in Canada’s history that a third-ranked political party had won a majority in a single election. Happy Election Day, indeed!

Amen to all that.
Rightly identifies that the two progressive leaders are not remotely without their faults, but that leaving Harper in power is the worst decision of all except possibly voting for the Bloc.
We use first past the post in Canada so there’s been a huge trend towards strategic voting, that is simply voting for the progressive MP in your riding most likely to win. It’s a sad way to vote, but when there’s one conservative party and two progressive parties and the conservatives have gutted environmental and human rights protections there’s few options at hand.
Hopefully the sun will rise tomorrow on a Harper-free Canada with a lot of work to do.
Rise and shine! The sun did rise on a Harper-Free land and the smug Frenchie (who has trouble with his french) has won! People in Canada do listen to John Oliver, or rather, John Oliver seized the (Anglo)Canadian mind perfectly, eh?
Not quite Harper free. He’s still in Parliament. But what a historic rout, eh?
