Why is it that many people who participate in discussions on the internet totally lose it? The same people likely would be much more reasonable if they were talking face-to-face. Some people think it is the lack of feedback, but there certainly is feedback on the internet. Others say that it is just people who need to get attention in an increasingly disconnected world. Or that you need to be shrill in order to be heard. I dunno. I think almost all of us, even the most reasonable, have said something on the internet that was a bit overboard.
I’m just happy that my readers have supported me in creating a little outpost where we can have reasonable discussions. Oh, and speaking of this blog, it recently turned seven years old!

congratz on 7 years! hope you keep your ‘outpost’ going for hella long time. truly a refreshing spot to stop by. thank you! 🙂
SHOVE YOUR BLOG UP YOUR BUNG HOLE YOU FASHIST, COMMIE LOVING IDIOT.
Ha! IL-08 beat me to the snark and did it 1,000 times better than I was going to.
Love your blog, congrats on 7 years of sharing the three happinesses of facts, reasons and logic. 😉
IL-08, what’s a fashist? lol
From Urban Dictionary:
fashist
Someone who is so into style that they are facists for fashion.
You’re closet is filled with the same sweater in 20 different colors, and you wear a new pair of shoes every week. You are a total fashist.
Probably more appropriate than that other spelling.
It would be difficult to shove the blog up my bung hole. Where do you think all these stories come from?
One word – anonymity. When you can hide behind a mask, no holds barred, no repercussions and some will cowardly take full advantage. Full disclosure, Ralph (my alter ego from The Honeymooners) isn’t even my real name, but I’ve taken it as an online nom de guerre, along with an assoc’d email address, to keep flamers, phishers and vendors out of my other boxes. Such is the nature of our Brave New Digital World. But even if you did have my real name (hint: it’s Greg something), would you really know me? Of course not, beyond the occasional political slings here.
Congrats on seven solid years of bringing some sanity and meaty discourse to the blogosphere!

Happy 7th IK 🙂
I have always enjoyed the conversation and sometimes spirited debates spelled out here at PI. The level of civility is remarkable, out side a just a few incidents. A shining example of what civil discourse is supposed to look like.
Congrats on 7 years!!! This site has been a daily stop for me for years now. I REALLY appreciate your take on events, and especially the time you spend to make this site happen. Thanks, and here is to 7 more!
Congratulations on 7 years. A lot of marriages don’t last that long. Although in November mine will be at 49 years. And they said it wouldn’t last. (Well at least his mother hoped it wouldn’t last..lol). In today’s culture anything that lasts more that a few months is becoming increasingly rare, so kudos to you and to longevity.
I thoroughly enjoy your blog and visit regularly for the humor and reasonable approach. Hope you keep it up for many more years.
Happy 7th IK, this will be my homepage as long as you want it to be
Happy Birthday!
Lots of reasons:
1) Anonymity (as Ralph pointed out)
2) It’s been proven that people’s brains can be tricked into believing things that aren’t true
3) Half the population has below average intelligence
4) Without body langauge, it’s easier to misinterpret someone’s comments and get defensive. (Apparently dogs almost completely ignore what people are saying, but only pay attention to tone and body language)
Combining the above: if you don’t like the message, kill the messenger
