Why Walmart is open on Thanksgiving

I hope everyone, even those poor souls who have to work today, has a good (or at least bearable) Thanksgiving, Hannukkah, or Turkey (Tofu?) Day.

    Here’s some non political hypocrisy:

Shoppers say workers should be home with their loved ones. But they’ll head out anyway.

“I don’t like that the hours are earlier. I think people should be able to be with their families on Thanksgiving,” said “a customer”as she shopped for shoes at J.C. Penney.

seems the fuss about family time was much ado about nothing or is only about us not them. I enjoyed Football, food, a rented movies and fun with my family. Go Ravens

PSgt, what if you need the sale prices in order to afford things? In that case, even the customers are being “forced” to leave their families on Thanksgiving in order to go shopping.

Not mentioned is the time and a half pay on Thanksgiving, not available on Black Friday. Still only work eight hours and have dinner and company before or after the shift.

We’ll to be fair as well, we forget there are many people who work on our holidays that don’t get mentioned. convenience stores, gas stations, supermarkets, restaurants, Airlines, trains, busses, gov’t workers, military, NFL concessionaires, players camera crews and players, parking lot attendants, and the list goes on..

There are those of us who just don’t like the commercialization or crazy crowds, but there are people who do and love the thrill of the hunt for a bargain. Also, there are many who are bored by 8m on T-Day if they don’t have a big family and want to go out.
So I guess we (I) should stop judging and imposing our (my) personal values and let people live they way they want. And actually my teenage sons like to go out and mix up with the crowds, it’s just their old dad doesn’t. Black Friday has been around for awhile (since the 60’s at least)so its more of a cultural event for Americans and almost a holiday of it’s own.

When I lived in New Zealand, if you went to a restaurant on a holiday they had a small surcharge so they could pay their employees extra. I thought that was wonderful. They don’t really have tipping there either.
