Last week, over fifty newspapers pulled the Doonesbury comic strips because they dealt with the increasing number of new laws that require women to get an unnecessary sonogram to show them an image of their fetus before they can get an abortion.
This week, Jen Sorensen did a comic about the newspapers pulling Doonesbury, and for the first time in over a decade, a newspaper decided to pull her strip. As Sorensen put it, “The layers of irony here are impressive.”

Our local paper pulled the cartoon, then put a link on-line for us to go to if we wanted to see it. I thought that was a nice compromise.
EBDOUG, I’m sorry your paper felt it necessary to do what it did. There was no need for compromise. Nice of them to give you a link to the page, but censorship is censorship and there is nothing obscene or indiscreet about Sorensen’s strip. Perhaps they felt the words rectal or virgin were too harsh for their gentle readership. I’m guessing, though that they had no problems using the phrase “transvaginal ultrasound.”
