Everyone downloads copyrighted files. Everyone.
A new website tracks what files have been downloaded using bittorrent by you (or any other user, by IP address). Just click on the link, and it will tell you if you (or someone at the same IP address) has been naughty.
Now the hypocritical part. The same data has been used to determine that major media companies are pretty much all guilty of downloading copyrighted materials, including Universal, Sony, and Fox. Even Homeland Security, the US department whose job includes seizing domain names to crack down on online piracy. Yup, they are downloading files illegally.
I guess this means that if SOPA passes, it will shut down the websites of all the major media companies and of Homeland Security?

Are you sure you and your friends don’t work for the RIAA? Maybe Sony or Universal? Maybe you’re both just really good at covering your tracks. Either way, congratulations, neither you or your friends and family returned any results from our crawlers. Tonight, you can jump into bed, open up Netflix or iTunes and sleep comfortably knowing that you’ve been a well-behaved, law-abiding internet user. But remember, there’s always tomorrow.

Ok, that confuses me. I thought I had dynamic IP, so my IP address is changed to whatever is available when I log on? (I’m not a computer person, much to my sadness.)
So, how would such a site work?
(Also, if someone has been bittorrenting from my box, I would be shocked. It’s only my husband and I, and he uses his machine religiously because it’s a linux box, mine’s still on XP. And I have no clue how to torrent. At all. I’m getting to feel so old. 😉 )
Reading the site, apparently they don’t separate dynamic IPs, but they do timestamp them (which, according to some users, does not even work) so you can see at what time you were using what IP anything you downloaded.
Unfortunately, there are times (like mine) where it didn’t keep track of anything being downloaded (which might be due to the fact that WOAH I’m hiding my download activity) or the site is just defective. It works on some people’s IPs, but so far, I can’t get it to work on me which is either a blessing or I’m doing something wrong.
Interesting, but I come up blank despite downloading a good chunk of stuff from Pirate Bay. But I also use an IP Filter with Vuze.
