Better Decisions

I agree with the sentiment that they should have made better decisions. Like deciding to vote for someone who doesn’t blame the victims for their misfortunes.

Great comic, and absolutely nails the point that people should not be held accountable for things beyond their control. It’s the mentality that corporate giants have been pushing for some time: the company seeks to internalize profits and externalize expenses of their operation. When their employees get sick because of exposure to chemicals or radiation, they externalize the costs by forcing those workers to pay for their own care. When a person gets sick or is in a car accident and needs medical care, their insurance agency will scour their health history and pull out ridiculous pieces of information that they say point to “pre-existing conditions” or some other minute detail that disqualifies the client from financial support.

This idea that we are all supposed to fend for ourselves flies in the face of the entire insurance industry, which is there so that we don’t. So, which is it?
