Doesn’t it seem like the current crop of candidates are running away from the viewpoints held by the majority of voters? For example, a strong majority of voters would like to see a tax increase on the rich.

And a strong majority of the voters that want tax increases to the rich are the rich. Do you remember Boehner saying that in his district, no one wanted mandatory Health care? At which point, a petition of his constituents was presented to him. Now people can’t wait for it to go into effect.
