An ironic twist in the scandal rocking Virginia governor Ralph Northam coming from a new poll. Overall, Virginians are deadlocked, with 47% saying that he should step down as governor, and 47% saying he should not (6% with no opinion).
However, while 48% of whites say that Northam should resign, among blacks, only 37% want him to resign. Does this mean that whites are more upset than blacks about Northam having a photo showing someone in blackface in his medical school yearbook page.
Maybe, but probably not. The same survey shows that 56% of Republicans think he should resign. It is difficult to believe that Republicans are saying this because they are upset about any alleged racism. Among Democrats, 40% think he should resign.

Hey, it’s Virginia. If you insist that every candidate have an unblemished history of racial sensitivity, no white Virginian could ever run for office.
Obviously, Virginia African-Americans simply have a clearer understanding of where they live and who lives there with them.
Me, I agree with them. I’d rather have someone who was a jerk as a youngster, and will spend the rest of his life frantically trying to make up for that.
The explanation seems obvious. Fairfax is doomed (with the second accuser) and Herring may be. If Northam resigns, there’s a risk of a Republican Governor — something far more dangerous to black Virginians than a Democrat who will have to spend the rest of his term making amends for earlier racism.
If we can have a president with absolutely no moral boundaries, then this is nothing but a pimple on the butt of democracy.
I wonder if those Republicans surveyed think that Trump should step down? I’m guessing no, so their opinion should not count.
