John Oliver asks all the right questions. For example, why are the Republicans so desperate to put Judge Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court? Couldn’t they find someone who is a little less of an asshole?
The interesting thing to me when I watch video of Kavanaugh is that he seems to be acting. I don’t get any feeling that he actually believes much of anything he is saying. He went from appearing on Fox News pretending to be a meek and innocent choir boy, to being spitting angry and insulting to senators (well, at least Democratic ones). I get the sense that he is just doing and saying what he has been told to do and say. It doesn’t matter if his marching orders are coming from the Federalist Society or from Donald Trump, he will be a good little conservative soldier doing their bidding (almost certainly including making sure that Donald Trump never has to answer for any crimes he may have committed).
If you don’t believe me, go back to Kavanaugh’s bizarre acceptance speech when he was nominated to the court. The first thing he said was this: “No president has ever consulted more widely, or talked with more people from more backgrounds, to seek input about a Supreme Court nomination.” That is absolutely unbelievable. Trump (who never vets anyone very well) picked Kavanaugh from a list given to him by the Federalist Society. And even if it were true, why would Kavanaugh say something like this, unless it was to let Donald Trump know that he would do anything to please his masters?
And there were numerous lies and refusing to answer direct questions during Kavanaugh’s questioning by the Senate committee this week.
It seems like Kavanaugh was always this way, all the way back to when he was in high school, drinking hard (even though it was illegal) to prove that he was cool. Or bragging about his sexual conquests, even though he how claims he never had sex, even during college. Seriously?
If Americans buy this crap, they are bigger suckers than anyone thought.

Last Thursday the Senate consulted two credible character witnesses against Brett Kavanaugh: Christine Blasey-Ford, and Brett Kavanaugh.
Could anyone actually believe Kavanaugh is completely honest or even remotely credible, after seeing him in his response to Ford?

At least Flake demanded an investigation. Don’t know if the FBI will put much effort into it, but it’s better than nothing.

Now I’ll have to wait for the FBI to question all of them before passing any opinion, but as someone who has interviewed witnesses and defendants I’ll say I have some questions.
1. Which of the people present lived at the house?
2. When did Dr Ford learn the name of Kavanaugh? ( since her female friend who was present said she had never met Kavanaugh before, at the house, or afterwards)
When did she learn the name of the alleged accomplice Mark Judge.(since the female witness also does not know him)
Maybe these questions were answered, but I have not seen or heard. If she didn’t know who Kavanaugh was how did she find out? The only thing she was 100% absolutely certain of was that it was Bret Kavanaugh and Mark Judge.
We should be diligent and seek the truth. Otherwise, we have no democracy and anyone. An be accused and convicted without due process.
And that should scare us all.
Since their actions were criminal, Mark Judge can not be relied on for a truthful answer. And since he is the main witness, lying is in his best interest unless immunity is offered.
Well I guess her female lifelong friend is a big fat liar too. And the other guy, big fat liar.
I don’t doubt that Dr Ford suffered some immense traumatizing life event unles she missed her calling as an academy award winning actress.
I am saying there are 4 first person witnesses of which you would discount 2 that leaves 1 male and one female who do not recall meeting the named suspects or recall the gathering.
And it is a fair question to ask Dr Ford whose house did she or one of the other 4 call home.
It is also a fair question to ask if she had ever met Kavanaugh or Judge prior to or after the alleged assault and how she first learned their names.

I’m trying to think of the last time I saw ads on tv promoting the candidacy of a nominee for SCOTUS. Nope, coming up empty. What’s up with that? Where’s that money coming from? I wonder.
Anyway, from my perspective, this guy is unqualified to be on the highest court. Sex assault accusations aside (though apparently true, and the FBI may have more to say still), his checkered political past, undisciplined demeanor and obvious partisanship are show stoppers in themselves. He seems to really like his beer too. A lot. Of this he assures us.
Republicans are clearly desperate to stack the court before the Fall elections, which is looking more and more bleak for them. As it happens, the man who brags he hires “all the best people” has sent them another lemon.
There is clearly enough crazy to go around on both sides of the political isle. That combined with the (fill in the blank)PAC, not to mention the likely foreign actor meddling its hard to tell what’s real. I think the whole Dr Ford thing was staged and timed by politicians for maximum gotcha. It’s cleary not as much about her as the gotcha.
As to Kavanaugh qualifications, up until the 11th hour of the final day he seemed to be very judicially qualified. But, I will give the final word to the FBI and will withhold my final opinion till then.
Pat, Ford said that there was no reason for the others in the house to know what happened that night because she left without them knowing. They had parties constantly, or so it seems, and this one was fairly small and tame for the others present so there was no reason they would remember that apart from all the many dozens of other parties they attended. If this incident had not happened, chances are Ford would not have remembered it either.
As to the Dems playing politics, I have two words for you. Merrick Garland.
