An amazing hypocritical display of stupid, from our (dare I say “racist”?) politicians. And Jon Stewart doesn’t even go after the easy targets, like Michele Bachmann (who compared immigrant children to rapists), or these protestors who want land mine fields at the borders.
I love it when they try to blame it on Obama, when in fact a major cause of this problem is a law signed by none other than Dubya.

This situation is very complicated. I had a chance to talk to my wife (who was an immigrant 26 years ago)about this. We both agreed that this is a worst possible scenario for these children. Their countries and parents should be ashamed and held responsible. The thought of sending a child through the extreme peril of navigating the coyote route to the border is almost inconceivable. This is child neglect at the least or negligent endangerment at worst. Yea they are here and as citizens of the world and compassionate people we are obligated to care for them. But we should send a bill to their governments and ask them to fly planes here to return them to their families.
I’m not blaming anyone in the US for how they got here, but I can tell you their families and governments ARE to blame. Shame on them for putting their most precious assets in harms way!
The only excuse I can think of for them is pure desperation. But I mostly agree with you.
I don’t know. I don’t see every parent of these kids being criminally negligent or neglectful. The numbers are just too huge. We have to consider that, at least for some, this dangerous and thankless path is the best option they have. I’m very comfortable with the line of thought that says a significant portion of these kids are refugees, and seeing how folks here have reacted to their arrival is far more sickening than theories that this many parents in central and south America are heartless cretins.
These are the same people who want this country overrun by unwanted children that the parents want aborted. But they don’t want to allow Native Americans to come to the US. These children have ancestors who have been on the continent longer than most of us reading this column. I find it so hypocritical.
Seems like Congress could begin by repealing the law they passed during the Bush years.
That would require them to, you know, actually do something.
