You may have noticed that the site has been having problems for a few days. I don’t know if someone hacked into the site (again), or if it is the victim of a denial of service attack, or whatever. I’ve spent a few days trying to fix it but so far have failed.
The biggest problem is that I’m starting a new company, and I don’t have enough time to fix the blog right now (the last time this happened, it took weeks of hard work). Sorry, but I’m giving up.
It has been a great run. I started this blog in May 2008 and expected to do this maybe up until the election. But then you happened. I’ve made new friends, and have reconnected with old friends who found the blog. I’ve gone to parties and had people come up to me and tell me that they discovered this cool new blog, not knowing it was me who ran it (how crazy is that?). I have gotten so much out of this. Thank you all.

I’ll take the site down in a few days, but I’ll put up a list of other sources of political humor. Meanwhile, try the links.

Every single day. I think I haven’t missed a day since you started the site. You have a gentleness in your comments that other commentators don’t have.
I also have to add that while the site was having problems I went to your “home” wm leler site and looked at pictures of your trips. I, also would have been taking pictures of aura borealis and the ponies on the fell.
Starting a business, you will be able to take other trips so I’ll check in over there periodically and read your update about your new business.
Having spent 20 years starting and running our tiny town Web site, I understand the work involved. Of course, I have computer geek son to help me. The town did not have a Web Site. And last year a Republican got in as Town Supervisor. The voted to go to a paid Web Site instead of my free one. And yes, the new one is not kept up to date. There is in event in our town scheduled for April of 2013 just in case you are interested. No beautiful pictures, etc.

Ah, this is sad news indeed — my mailbox will be losing its one reliably bright spot. Sad, too, that you’ve been obliged to contend with so many tech catastrophes. I don’t blame you for throwing up your hands at last.
It’ll be a different world without Political Irony — you’ve been the most grown-up voice, by far, in the cacophony. I give you this honor over, say, Jon Stewart because you can whip out a mean analysis and burst into righteous indignation when it’s justified. I haven’t always agreed with you, but I’ve always, always valued your perspective.

Phew, about the new posts. I’ve been warned about the little URls. (bring in virus) I wonder if the site you are on got rid of the problem.
IK thans you for donating alot of your personal time simply for the purpose of allowing conversation to take place in a civil manner. I first found your little blog in 2009 I believe while recovering from my 3rd and final tour overseas and it provided me a venue to discuss some of the questions I had about life in general and allowed me to hear different viewpoints. The next year while I was battling cancer it was the bright spot of my day while I would be home alone dealing with the side effects of treatment. Your site got me out of bed and kept me thinking and engaged. After that it was just a part of what I’d do and I looked forward to each day to see how different people thought about different things.
My friend, you’ve given more then you know and I’m sure I am not the only one who feels this way. Take care and may you enjoy some free time without the hassles of site management and daily research. We’ll all miss you and I’ll miss you. Keep my email and if you begin again in any fashion or ever need anyting, let me know.
I’ll also miss an aweful lot of the PI contributers. There are some truely awesome contributers I’ve seen over the years. Thank you as well!

So, um, you were just fucking with us? (You’re only quitting PI if/when the connectivity gods get their periods?)
Ha ha! The site got so bad that it took like 20 seconds just to load any page. Trying to post any message kept failing over and over. I spent two days trying to figure out what was wrong, had my hosting provider check everything on their end, all to no avail. So I finally gave up.
Then you guys posted an embarrassment of so many sweet messages. And I still had to load the site in order to delete spam messages (as long as I left the site up). Then a week later it suddenly started working again. So, as I said in the update, I started posting a few messages again, when I had the time.
As I said, I’m really busy now starting a new company, but it won’t always be this bad. Hopefully, I’ll have more spare time as we get closer to the election. So I’m slacking for a while now, but figured it makes sense to post things I see from time to time to keep it alive until I have more time.
I hope that is acceptable to you! 🙂

It’s funny, but I don’t see myself that way. There are so many very knowledgeable and articulate contributors, like yourself, that I feel more like a hack sometimes. Folks like you and the others who tolerate my amateurish attempts at debate and discourse deserve most of the credit.
