I’m enjoying John Oliver’s summer at the helm of the Daily Show. Also worth a view is Lewis Black’s segment on Texas.

It seems Lewis Black does not realize how big the state of New York is. That there is green and rolling empty country and water all over just outside NYC. He made it seems as though NYC is the State of New York.
Wait, you mean, there is a state also called New York? Who knew! Isn’t that confusing?
I was born on Long Island. After I moved to the western part of the state, my mother raised in NYC visited and expressed her amazement that we also have New York License plates. She was joking, but it did startle her. We think we are subsidizing NYC, but it turns out that NYC subsidizes us because of Wall Street and those that come in from NJ and pay New York State taxes. When the market crashes, we lose out all across the state.
