Nope – it’s not funny – it’s stupid. You get “your money” back when you give back the public education your were given, the police protection that kept you and your family safe, the military that keeps some really ugly people away from you, the interstate highway system that takes you wherever you want to go and brings goods to your doorstep quickly and more inexpensively than anywhere else on Earth, the firefighters who put their lives on the line for your family and your property … the list of what you got for “your money” goes on and on. Taxes are a pretty minimal price to pay for the quality of life American whiners enjoy. Get over it.
I agree with everything Mountain Man said, especially the thought that our taxes are a bargain considering the benefits we enjoy.
However, like IK, I’m ambivalent about what it is and who it’s making fun of. Maybe it’s making a conservative commentary on taxes but if that’s the case, the gun toting criminal is also making a case for background checks of fiscal conservatives. The expression on the congressman’s face in the second panel has me wondering if he is confounded by the robbers comment – obviously the haughty congressman is conservative and caught in a paradox.
I think there is a lot of interesting ambiguity in this cartoon. Thanks for sharing it.
Ironic, isn’t it?
