The conservative organization “True the Vote” was trying to place election observers at precincts in central Ohio, mainly “focusing on African American districts”. But the local election board discovered that they had forged the candidate signatures that are required to allow observers to gain access to polling stations.
One election board member said he was “amazed that a group that goes to such extreme lengths to claim voting fraud in Ohio would knowingly forge or misuse signatures to try to gain access to Franklin County polling locations.” The board (made up of both Republicans and Democrats) unanimously rejected the forms and will not allow True the Vote access to polling locations.
Printed on the forms containing the forged signatures is the statement that “election falsification is a 5th degree felony”. What does it tell you when a group claiming to be trying to prevent voting fraud purposely commits felony-level fraud?

I hope it’s a typo where you say, “and will now allow True to Vote access to the polling locations.” in the second paragraph.
Linked article says “will not” allow. Some site called washingtoninsider is claiming R Penn. poll workers are being kicked out of polling places. Should be a fun day for the bloggers.
“The board (made up of both Republicans and Democrats) unanimously rejected the forms and will now allow True the Vote access to polling locations.”
NOW should read NOT.
So much GOP wrestling going on in Ohio–my state–with elections this year under the sanctioning of the Sec’y of State, Husted (R). The gerrymandered map of Congressional districts, which forced Kucinich out, looks like a labyrinthine disaster. And the ballot initiative to correct it is suffering from a counterattack waged by groups who are condemning it as some sort of frightening authoritarian takeover which, ironically, is what the GOP is consummating now.
And Fox & Friends showed video of an “intimidating” New Black Panther at some polling place in Pennsylvania. The big scary black man was smiling and holding the door open for ladies.
oops, thanks Don and Nance. I fixed the typo. Should have been “not” instead of “now”.
I’m amazed that, “One election board member said he was “amazed that a group that goes to such extreme lengths to claim voting fraud in Ohio would knowingly forge or misuse signatures to try to gain access to Franklin County polling locations.”
How did someone so naive get on an election board?
“What does it tell you when a group claiming to be trying to prevent voting fraud purposely commits felony-level fraud?”
I suppose it’s too much to hope that any of these felons will be prosecuted…
It’s going to take me awhile to recover from the grim pessimism of the past few years, I guess. I just used the link, and learned that this group is at least going to get “investigated”.
We need to reform the voting process and take it out of the hands of politicians – and stop using voter suppression, long lines and last minute games with the ballots and voting rules as a weapon.
Obama said in his acceptance speech “We need to fix that” and boy was he ever spot on.
It is up to us to make sure Obama makes this a priority.
