How Not to Argue with Reality

Facts are stubborn things.

The GOP game plan with facts seems to be to make some up, then repeat them so many times that people start to believe them. And usually the media lets them get away with it. But CNN’s Soledad O’Brien actually challenges these falsehoods! OMG, a real journalist?

But it is interesting to listen to how John Sununu responds to reality when faced with it — by calling names and repeating his talking points:

Sununu has always been like this, he’s embarrassing and grating. This piece seems like a setup for the entire campaign going forward and I’m already sick of it.

    Keep it up Soledad.

Sununu makes a good argument that we in New Hampshire have some of the most ridiculously useless politicians.

She has a great “look” when he does something absurd. 🙂 This gives me new respect for CNN.

This is an excellent example of the two different parties and the brains occupying their skulls. One is entirely incapable of dealing with cognitive dissonance. Their pride overwhelms any sense of reason. A page of disinformation that contains a familiar truth in the beginning paragraph, validates the rest as fact. Thereafter, any factually based argument made against said claim is simply written off as “liberal bias” or “socialist, commie, tyrannical, propoganda”. Is there any hope? Shame, shame…

I almost didn’t bother to view this, coz it sounded like same old, same old.

But wow, Soledad O! I am a new-minted fan. I may actually have to look in on CNN from time to time, if they’re going to start dealing in facts again.

This in the same league as hearing Keith Olbermann’s first Special Comment all those years ago — it’s amazing what a jolt it is when a TV talking head says sane things.

But my favorite is her close — she does a spectacular job of making it clear that “John Sununu, always nice to have you” means “Eat shit and die, you demented old man-whore.”

The wingnuts have this strange conviction that anything longer than a tweet cannot be read by a human. I did love him saying “I have the CBO report!” and her response, “Let me tell you what it says” — CLASSIC!

Oh dear, I can’t stop watching this! And every time, it makes me laugh more. I think my absolute favorite might be where Sununu responds to O’Brien’s recital of facts by yelling “Stop this!” It’s hilarious!

Sorry — I’m not usually the thousand-PS kind of person, but it’s late and I’m exhilarated by this clip.

You know every wing nut in the world is going to be screaming to CNN about this — seems to me they should also hear from us pro-sanity folks too. Here’s where to send fan mail: http://www.cnn.com/feedback/show/?s=soledadobrien
