Somehow this looks just like the argument for female circumcision. Different Culture, mostly Muslim. We are getting closer and closer to their laws.
If you squint hard enough, some strains of organized religions start looking very similar.
Sorry, Iron Knee, I have to disagree with you there. There is no squinting required…this from a previous Catholic. On the other hand, I do agree that Tom Tomorrow is fantastic.
I don’t think I can express how deeply angry I am, on so many levels, with the discourse on contraception, abortion, and other invasive procedures being forced on women while basic health care for the most vulnerable is being threatened. Almost all by rich white men. It is impossible to understand the level of misogyny that these men harbor.
It is a very good thing that I know many white men who would never consider telling the ladies what to do with their “lady parts” (thanks, Helen).
Jo, right on. And being an ex Catholic, you might enjoy the book “The Priestly Sins” by Rev Andrew Greeley. I, a non, believer, agree with everything he says. He could almost make me want to be a Catholic. It seems to be autobiographical set in Novel form with the hero being Russian/German while Father Andrew Greeley is very Irish. Needless to say he has never aspired to rise in the church. He just exposes it.
Thanks for the recommendation, EBD. I may have to get the book for my upcoming trip.
