The number of comments has fallen off dramatically since I installed some new anti-spam software, and I just got an email from someone saying they were unable to leave a comment. I’ve disabled the new software for now. Please let me know if you have any problems with the site.

I think the anti-spam software was broken somehow. I had tried to leave a comment recently, and it simply never showed up, with no indication as why. I tend to just forgo leaving comments on a blog when that happens…
I was batting .500. I left a comment on 9/27 that didn’t show up but then left one on 9/28 that did.
Thats better. Yes it worked fine for a couple days then nothing. I figured it was either a filtering software issue or a permissions issue. Seems to be OK now IK.
Oh man I thought everyone reading this blog had died. I felt so alone, and then when I realized I couldn’t leave a comment, it was probably a site issue.

Nah, just lurking. By the way I really can’t stand that picture of Sarah Palin in the add that never seems to go away on the right side of the window. Any chance you can get rid of it? As much as I love this site, it pisses me off, sorry to say.

But you really should have told me when you had problems posting comments! Some people were able to post comments, so I didn’t know there was a problem. I thought you didn’t love irony anymore.

I’m trying to figure out what the problem was with comments. Can anyone tell me please, when you tried to leave a comment were you logged in or not? Some people were able to leave comments, and I’m not sure if they were logged in.
My site is fairly unusual in that I don’t require people to log in before they leave comments (I don’t even require a captcha). So far, I’ve been able to keep the spammers at bay using other measures, but it is a constant struggle. This new software would have helped with that, but if it doesn’t work…
I was logged in. And it looked like the submit worked, until I went to review it. It just wasn’t there.
My first thought was that the posting was delayed. So I looked a few hours later.
If anyone ever posts a comment and it doesn’t appear immediately, then there is a problem. Please let me know. My email address is in the “About” page.
