You know, reading the comments on the blog you had tagged made shows that the cocoon views and intolerance go both ways (I also couldn’t beleive that the blogger stole somenone’s Tea Party flag and was atually BRAGGING about it as well). Most of the commenters seem inclined to believe that the Tea Partiers are a bunch of rascist and Glenn was just out for the money. Personally, I think Beck is honestly trying to do what he can to improve the country – not that I agree with him. I do think his faith sometimes gets in the way of his logic…
As for the Tea Partiers, they were just formed out of the frustrations of the middle class, particularly the blue collar ones. Without the economic problems and the too-big-to-fail bailout “solution,” there would be no Tea Party. It is a very human reaction to look for someone to blame for your problems, especially in this country as the sense of entitlement gets larger every year.
BTN: You make good points. It’s also incredibly hypocritical for some of us to defend the Park 51 Islamic Center’s right to build and then get upset at Beck holding his gig on the place and day that MLK gave his “Dream” speech. There is no hallowed ground or if there is…
I say, let Beck and Palin do their thing and lead their flock right off a political cliff by dividing the Republican party or at least splintering it a bit more than it already was.
Beck carries on an American tradition of intolerance and race-baiting. Scare-tactics honed to a fine edge by Bush, Cheney and Rove. Finding scapegoats worked for the Nazis in Germany. Early America practiced intolerance regardless of the Dec of Independence and the Constitution. I hope that some news organizations give Beck ALL the coverage so we know who’s sending him money and what other organzations subscribe to his messages.
Being upset that Beck was holding this really and actually trying to stop him are two different things.
