There’s a TED talk already and Fark hasn’t spotted it yet?
Now if only I was a Fark member, I might have gotten a greenlight. 😉
Anyhow, the presumptions made in most of the histories I’ve read about radical social change have always presumed some sort of physical locus for change, including a limited number of leaders organizing change. Even back with Tianamen Square in the late ’80’s, those assumptions have been called into question (pardon the cliche!). Back then, it was email. Lately, it’s been twitter. Neither is what matters–what matters is that social change is becoming decentralized. Disconnected, even “leaderless”, groups and individuals can form flash mobs–and nothing says that a flash mob is limited to the silliness of pillow fights.
Ok, off to listen to the TED talk. Thanks for the link.
