All those movies you see in which the rich and powerful think they can get away with anything because they’re rich and powerful? That premise is entirely real.
All those movies you see in which the underdog hero/heroine brings down the rich and powerful, sometimes with the assistance of an incorruptible government agent? That is entirely fiction.
One thing to keep in mind: the CIA is not the military.
The military has much higher levels of discipline. In addition, soldiers are much more likely to be captured than CIA agents, so they better understand that torturing prisoners endangers their fellow soldiers.
As for Dick Cheney, maybe Harry Whittington needs to return the favor on their next hunting trip. He never even apologized.

In Dick World, the end justifies the means, and 9/11 is his eternal moral shield. But you can’t claim the moral high ground occupying the same putrid gutter as your adversary.
