The Miami-Dade County elections department received an inquiry earlier this year about whether the bathrooms in their polling places were accessible to disabled voters.
Their response? They are closing all restrooms at polling places “to ensure that individuals with disabilities are not treated unfairly.”
That’s an interesting way to ensure fairness. Screw everyone!
So that means that if you are stuck in a line waiting to vote, you won’t be able to go to the bathroom. And remember that in the last presidential election, people waited as long as six hours to vote. Not to mention that people with a disability like diabetes, which makes you need to urinate more frequently, are going to have a real problem.
Then there are the elderly, who make up a large percentage of the Florida population. Luckily, not all counties in Florida are doing something this stupid.

Absentee vote: I can’t go to a polling place, because no one can guarantee me that the persons next to me in line don’t carry cigarette smoke in on their clothing. I then end up with suppressed breathing for a month before I give up and take prednisone. The county instantly granted me absentee voting and seems to have taken me off Jury duty.
It’s been a long time since I read Mau-Mauing the Flak Catchers, but oh boy, this sounds like Miami-Dade is volunteering for some theater — especially since I seem to remember they are one of the places where voters stood in line for 8 hours.
I say, set up folding screens in every corner, and let the County live with the consequences of their nasty choices.
“And remember that in the last presidential election, people in poor and minority districts waited as long as six hours to vote.” There, fixed that for you. Affluent, white suburbanites never have to wait that long to vote.
