Thanks for the names, it’s interesting to see what’s out there. Clearly, a few scraps here and there like LaRouche. He’s quite remarkable: a true equal-opportunity conspiracy theorist.

Speaking of conspiracy theorists, that’s a part of Nutlandia that is also primarily (but not uniquely) inhabited by GOP representatives, often of high profile.

McKinney is slightly off-kilter but rather amateurish compared to the professionals claiming to represent religious social conservatism at this moment in time.

Dan, the closest to bat-shit crazy on the Dem side that I’ve come up with is Cynthia McKinney and I don’t think even she is in the same class as the Republican crazies. In fact I think she’s not even as prone to conspiracy thinking as far out as the average Republican member of the house.

So, in answer to your question: YES, the GOP does have the crazies market cornered.

I see libertarian-minded colleagues tie themselves in knots to accommodate and rationalize away the social conservative half of the GOP. I tell myself that the political landscape is not one dimensional, and we all have to put up with the least of evils when lumping for a particular party.

But then I thought about finding some *real* crazies among the Dems, and I simply could not think of any off the top of my head. It’s no good accusing someone socially-minded of being a communist; the candidate has to be properly bat-sh*t crazy.

Any nominations?

Or does the GOP have this part of the market cornered?

I always used to think it was dreadfully unfair that the rest of the world’s population didn’t get a say in the election of the US president, seeing as the US has so much weight in global politics and economy. It didn’t seem fair to me.

Now with super PACs, however, we can influence elections however we like, so a lack of citizenship isn’t such a problem. Whew!
