I have no mosquitoes because I use no lawn products. I feed the birds all year. Between the birds, the bats, the frogs and toads and the other flying insects, I have the mosquitoes taken care of, naturally. No poisons here.

Representing current Texas here I guess…I had to look twice at the post to find the profanity. While it hasn’t likely made its way into church bulletins, newspapers, or media broadcasts, its not the kind of word that will get you shushed anymore in polite company. There’s also the option of using only the first two sylables, say around small children and hyper-sensitive adults.

As for Scott’s, does the political divide extend to lawncare too? I’ve been able to convince any number of conservative types of the advantages to using organic techniques in lawns and gardens. Weed and Feed products should be banned due to their pollution tendencies, adding nutrients to runoff. Use compost, folks.

I can vouch for Iron Knee on both the three syllable pronunciation and the everyday usage of shit from my time in Texas. However, I can relate to Regular Reader’s concern too because my mom from South Carolina, who was no prude, always said that she didn’t like that word because she could taste it every time she heard it. I never asked how she knew what it tasted like.

Sorry, I used to live in Texas, and there the word “shit” isn’t considered profanity (and is spoken with three syllables). I couldn’t resist the pun on fertilizer, but I guess the word manure would work too. Just doesn’t have the right ring to it.

Manure work better? It’s all the same, comes out of the south end of a north bound cow, it is what it is, if the “people that matter” are too polite to read the word “shit,” then odds are they won’t do anything about it anyway. I don’t use their products. Welcome to the Plutocracy.
