Modern Journalism

The problem is that the media doesn’t even have to make shit up like this, they can just repeat the crap that other people make up.

Media is all about efficiency and profit margins now. There is no investigative journalism. Journalists don’t uncover scandals anymore, they wait for the press release. The Watergate scandal was blown open by reporters. Today, we wouldn’t hear a word about it unless someone inside the administration told the media. It costs too much money to chase stories, so they are content to let them fall into their laps. And extreme ideologues on both sides are only too happy to fill that expectation.

Meanwhile we don’t report news that matters. How about Afghanistan? Q:
How many US Soldiers lost their lives last month?
    A: 33

Suprisingly many are killed and many more wounded by Afghan Army forces.

You know, I am getting really tired of this political bullshit crap. I buried another good friend, in Arlington, last month. I’m sure you read about the Officer shot in the back of the head, by a Afghan while he was working at a desk to help improve their country. Why do I need to go back there for a fourth tour.
    Why are we still there?
Oh, so our Commander in Chief can use us as campaign ammunition to show how tough he is sitting behind a desk watching a video. Why don’t you pick up a weapon and stand in front of a patrol with Afghans who might shoot you in the back before firing on a enemy. Then you’ll be a tough guy.

Apologies for the freaking meltdown PI readers.

Sounds like you deserve a meltdown.

My question is, why do we rally around war-time presidents? My guess is that without the wars, Bush would not have been re-elected. So we vote for people who do shit like this.

Thanks fellas. Let me be clear, It would have been terrible if Obama took office and immediately pulled everyone out, probably more for him, but for the world as well. We had to keep going, we had to finish what was started and we needed to get Bin Laden. But now we are in that wind down phase and all the Afghans know it. Thats why there are many who are swithcing sides and shooting our guys. They don’t trust their government and have no faith in Karzai. They know, just like many of us, that when we leave, the Taliban will be back and they had better been on the right side of the fight or they’ll die along with their families. We don’t kill families to set examples, but the Taliban have no problem with it. So who are you going to engage, them or coalition forces. No brainer.
We need to consolidate now, pull back our guys into the bases and don’t send them with the Afghans. They can’t be trusted. My friends death is a perfect example of stupid rules to appease a lost cause. He worked in the ministry of the interior, he was an infrastructure and logistics guy helping them rebuild. They were told they could no longer carry their side arms into the ministry as it offended the Afghans and made them uneasy. So he and a coworker were unarmed and a ministry employee killed both because they couldn’t defend themselves. Then he disappeared probably to join up with the Taliban and score some big points. Now our guys working in those places carry their weapons with them. Its happening alot more then gets reported. Afghans open fire on our guys, kill 1 or 2 wound more until they are killed. You can’t be looking forward and backward at the same time. Thats certainly one cause for some of our troops losing it and commiting war crimes. If I was there whne my buddy was killed I would have wanted revenge as well and given the mindset when you are in that environment its not a stretch. Seeing your guys shot or blown up and you know the people in the area knew it was going to happen. I have 7 friends in Arlington. I don’t want anymore.

Then I see all the, they this and they that and bullshit stupid food fights trying to score political points while another Soldier dies far away and no one but his family knows or cares. Certainly not those throwing food. I use food because if they were just throwing mud it wouldn’t be as wasteful, but they are wasting our money. The President stomping on the taxpayer dime, republicans and dems who won’t compromise while the economy stalls, fuel prices rise and people talk about a candidates dog or birth certificate. Another 1.5 trillion adds to the debt every year, while the grand solution is to raise rich peoples taxes and trim .10% from the deficit if we’re lucky, some great fricking plan. Sounds more like trying to score a moral victory to me then actually fix anything. Meanwhile another Soldier gets shot in the back or sees his buddy shot in the back. And then the OWS anarchists want to shut down what little is still working, they need to start rebuilding, go work for habitat for humanity, volunteer in a inner city school and help some kid have a future anything but what their doing. Don’t let them walk down my street or they’ll know what its like to serve in Afghanistan. Yeah that would make news, angry vet kills OWS anarchist, the left blames Bush, the right blames Obama, nobody gets the point. If he was black Sharpton would call it a hate crime and someone else would say its the evil military machine. You can tell I’ve had enough.

I’m scheduled to go back before this thing is over, and i just finished healing from the last one. Thanks for letting me rant.

Because Reagan hired the Arab Princes in the 1980s to be Mercenaries against the Russians. The Afghans are not Arabs. The Arabs formed Al Quaida who took away the freedom of particularly the woman in Afghanistan. Took away a full generation or more of education. We did that. We have a moral obligation.
I still to this day fail to understand why we just didn’t let the Russians and the Afghans fight it out without our help. People give me reasons that I don’t understand.
I keep reading more and more about Kennedy giving into Castro in Cuba. I can’t see that has hurt our country one bit.
