Would you like some Fruitcake with your Tea Party?

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio today revealed the results of his six month investigation into the validity of Obama’s birth certificate.

I’ll give you one guess what they decided. The investigation was headed by Jerry Corsi, who works for a website that encourages readers to pray for Obama’s defeat and replacement with a “godly candidate”. Corsi has also written an anti-Obama book, and a 2004 swift-boating book questioning John Kerry’s leadership in Vietnam. Of course, Corsi claimed “this is not a politically motivated inquiry”.

Coincidentally, Arpaio is being investigated for abuse of power and for widespread discrimination.

Is it my imagination, or has the Republican party gone completely mad?

Suddenly Corsi introduces God into his Breitbart type lies. Or Breitbart copied Corsi. Since Santorum supported the Breitbart lies and destruction of other lives as “very courageous”, I suppose he supports the Corsi lies too. And Corsi did a book on Baby Bush also didn’t he?

IK, I am very much afraid it is not your imagination. The combination of extreme right wing power, combined with a lock-step behavior pattern focused on winning at any cost and directly controlled by the plutocrats, has made the Republican Party a sociopathic and dangerous animal.

The other problem is the other choice (Democrats) are not much better. Less demonstrably sociopathic, the Democrats also generally believe in winning at any cost and are also mostly controlled by the plutocrats.

We need a constitutional convention focused on campaign finance and government operating rules and we need it soon.

IK, regarding your imagination, my first reaction that you must be kidding, what other option is there. But we can only hope that they’ve gone mad. Otherwise we have assume their deeds are much more nefarious.

RK, even assuming that their intent is indeed nefarious, do they really think that bringing up Obama’s birth certificate yet again (and again) is going to win their goals any sympathy or advance their cause one iota?

Arthanyel, it is one thing to be sociopathic (or controlled by plutocrats) and believe in winning at any cost. After all, most corporations — focused on profits above all other goals no matter what damage they do to others — are textbook sociopathic. That I can understand (even if I don’t agree).

But the nut cases who keep bringing up Obama’s birth certificate (or who are against sex for anything other than making babies, and then only if married) seem to be doing little more than hurting their own cause. Is it just that they cannot stop themselves? Are they just like some self destructive addict who knows they shouldn’t do something but then do it anyway? Are they some pathetic masochists who enjoy cutting themselves? Or are they instead completely clueless from living inside some little bubble where Obama is the great satan and so speaking out against him (even with lies) becomes a noble cause, even if you martyr yourself in the process?

IK – I believe that what we are seeing is the logical conclusion of having media constantly narrowing it’s focus to gain an audience share, no matter how bizarre the audience, and the disaster of campaign finance. It becomes a vicious cycle – politicians become ever more partisan to raise money (because moderate independents don’t donate) and media becomes ever more partisan to gain audience.

So yes, they are living in a bubble – or more precisely, an echo chamber, where their own delusions are heterodyning. And the more the lunatic fringe hears its own insanity repeated back at increased volume and with better graphics, the more insane they will become.
