Breaking News: Iron Knee NOT Arrested in Cairo

CBS is reporting that three Americans were arrested in Cairo. Given that our own Iron Knee last reported from Cairo, I was concerned. Iron Knee is not one of the three unfortunate people shown in this video from CBS.

It will be most interesting to hear from Iron Knee when he safely returns.

  1. I’m actually getting worried for him. It would be nice if he would check in.

In the meantime, you’re doing a bang-up job in his absence, Mr. or Ms. Filing.

Since he’s been fairly diligent in not giving away his identity, you have inadvertently narrowed down the possible suspects by three.

    Shame on you!

I’m fine, other than having a bit of tourist tummy. We left Cairo two nights ago. We are in the Sinai peninsula now, relaxing. We leave for Jordan tomorrow.

The main question I have is, who benefits the most from the current protests? There are lots of theories, which range from scary to worse. There are some who think pro-Murarak forces (including the police) are pushing the protests, hoping to delay next week’s elections. Some think the protestors don’t know why they are protesting, which I find hard to believe. There are so many parties with something to gain one way or another.

Bottom line? The situation is complicated. No surprise there.

The Internet has definitely played a crucial role here, but it is important to remember that the internet can give a voice to the voice-less, but it can also be used to manipulate those voices.

This is the first article I’ve seen that hints that someone might be trying to delay the elections. Although they only hint at it, and it is buried on the second and third page.
