I realize this is supposed to be funny and clever but I bet if I posted this to facebook I would get at least 5 people that would not appreciate the satirical tone and would whole heartedly agree with it. I have frequently made the mistake of thinking that the big GOP supports just haven’t thought through all of the consequences of their position — and many times they haven’t — but when presented with them, they aren’t the least bit perturbed. They are actually very consistent…
It’s been my experience that the GOPers who’re most consistent and who present the most well thought-out ideas often find themselves brought to conclusions that’re so politically untenable that most other GOPers would strike down them immediately.
e.g. Ron Paul libertarians tend to argue against universal health care pretty consistently, and you can tell they have well thought-out ideas. But more often than not, their stream of logic brings them to favoring the abolition of Medicare,…or opposing federal loans and grants to medical students because the cost savings are subsidized by the taxpayers,…etc..
Now, try getting the rest of the GOP to advocate ending Medicare or ending student loans for medical students. It’s a consistent and rational conclusion, but altogether stupid, politically-speaking. Which is why GOP elected officials never bring it up, which is why many of us think the GOP is not consistent and doesn’t think things through.
