There’s stupid and there’s right-wing nutcase stupid

Hal Turner is a white nationalist who promotes (among other things) the rounding up and killing of Jews. He also worked for Pat Buchanan’s presidential campaign, served as campaign manager for libertarian party candidate Murray Sabrin, and was even a friend of Sean Hannity (even though Sean later tried to deny it). He also runs a website and does a weekly webcast espousing his views.

But he’s now sitting in jail without bail. In a June 2 posting to his website, he wrote that three US appellate judges “deserve to be killed” because they upheld a Chicago ban on handguns. But the next day, he crossed over into crazy land by providing the names, work addresses, phone numbers, and photos of the three judges on his website.

At that point, the FBI swung into action and arrested Turner. And here’s when it goes beyond crazy. While Turner was in custody, he called in a posting to his website that threatened and named the three FBI agents who interviewed him.

And they said Skip Gates was nuts for yelling at a policeman.

Hal Turner is not a “white nationalist.” In fact, not only has Turner claimed that he is not, but has stated that anyone calling him a “white nationalist” is “defaming” him. What’s more, white nationalists have termed Turner a “freak show” and “mental-case.”

Here’s the first sentence from the wikipedia page on Hal Turner (which I linked to in the post):

Harold Charles “Hal” Turner is an American white nationalist and white supremacist from North Bergen, New Jersey.

What would you have me call him?

Iron, while I do believe that Hal Turner is indeed a white nationalist, I’d be careful using Wikipedia as a solid source. While the only example I can recall specifically is Jim Rome (sports radio talk host, who shot down about 20 incorrect “facts” about him listed on Wikipedia), I’ve heard several other people (and a few bands) in the past state that their Wiki page was filled with inaccuracies.

That said, there is a link on his Wiki page to an archive of his now defunct website. Assuming that mirror of his site is not edited (with the internet, making any assumption can be dangerous), his site is (was) so full of not just bigoted, but outright racist rhetoric, it’s clear he is so much more than merely a white nationalist. He is an evil racist.

Since you all get a little queasy without links go here and read, if you haven’t yet eaten lunch: http://web.archive.org/web/20071103122814/http://www.halturnershow.com/index.html

Before I lived in Charlotte, NC I grew up and lived in New Jersey quite near New York City. One of the towns was North Bergen (not in Bergen County but Hudson) I knew we had some strange ones in Jersey but not Hal Turner strange. Where’s the Jewsih Defense League when you need it?
